NUCB International College Holds Its 2026 Entrance Ceremony

On August 22nd 2026, NUCB International College (NIC), a fully residential international high school, held its 2026 Entrance Ceremony, welcoming a new cohort of students from Japan and around the world.

At the ceremony, the new student representative, Lydia from Australia, shared her aspirations for the journey ahead. The speech expressed a commitment not only to working diligently in their studies, but also to learning from and collaborating with classmates from diverse cultural backgrounds, broadening their perspectives, and developing into a leader capable of making a positive contribution on the global stage.

The Head Boy and Head Girl, who serve as student leaders at NIC, also delivered welcoming speeches to the new students. In addition, one of our current students performed music prepared especially for the occasion, creating a warm and memorable welcome for the newest members of the NIC community.

Building Connections Across Grade Levels Through the House System

For many new students at NIC, living away from their families and, in some cases, their home countries is a new experience. To help students build connections and adjust to both school and boarding life, NIC has established a House System, one of the distinctive features of its fully residential educational environment. Upon joining the school, every student is assigned to one of four Houses. Students from different grade levels work together as members of the same House and participate in a variety of school events and activities.

For House events, students form teams within their Houses and compete in activities ranging from sports to cultural and creative competitions. Houses earn points based on their achievements and results, while individual students may also earn points from teachers for their academic performance and positive contributions to school life. These points are accumulated throughout the academic year, and the House with the strongest overall performance is recognized at the end of the year.

Through the House System, students develop friendships and bonds that extend beyond differences in age, nationality, and cultural background. Older students support and encourage younger students, while new students quickly become part of the wider school community. The House System therefore plays an important role in helping students make the most of both their academic and residential experiences.

Working Together Through House Activities

Throughout the 2026/2027 academic year, students will take part in a variety of House activities designed to bring new and returning students together. New students learn not only from their teachers but also from older students, who help them become familiar with school traditions, expectations, and daily life.

Through House activities, students have opportunities to work with classmates from different grade levels and cultural backgrounds. Whether through sports, cultural activities, competitions, or other House events, students work together toward shared goals and learn the importance of communication, cooperation, and individual responsibility.

These experiences encourage students to develop the ability to communicate effectively, collaborate with others, and respect different perspectives—skills that are essential for young people preparing to participate in an increasingly interconnected world.

Developing Global Leaders with a Frontier Spirit

At NIC, we are committed to developing future global leaders based on the educational principles of “Frontier Spirit”—the spirit of opening up new and unexplored possibilities—and “Ethical Leadership.” Students from Japan and around the world learn together in an English-medium educational environment, gaining exposure to diverse cultures, perspectives, and ways of thinking.

Beyond the classroom, students develop independence, resilience, collaboration, and leadership skills through boarding life, House activities, extracurricular programmes, and a wide range of other experiences. The students who joined NIC in 2026 will have many opportunities to grow not only academically but also personally as they navigate their new school and residential lives and learn alongside peers from different backgrounds.

An International Educational Environment for Students from Around the World

Established in Nisshin, Aichi Prefecture, in September 2022, NUCB International College aims to develop globally minded leaders who can make a positive contribution to the world. The school provides an international educational environment where students with diverse backgrounds and experiences from Japan and overseas learn and live together. NIC is accredited as a Japanese “Ichijo-ko” (regularly accredited Article 1 school) by Aichi Prefecture and provides an English-medium learning environment, with classes taught in English except for Japanese language courses.

Just four months after opening, on December 12, 2022, the school was authorized as an IB World School, becoming one of the few fully residential international educational institutions in Japan and a pioneering institution of its kind in the Tokai region. In 2026, another new chapter begins as students from diverse nationalities, cultures, and backgrounds come together as one community. Through their shared experiences in the classroom, on campus, and in the boarding houses, NIC will continue to support each student in discovering their potential, developing their own path, and growing into an ethical leader ready to make an impact on the global stage.

Excellence in Education

The case method, first developed at Harvard Business School in 1922 and now commonly used in elite academic institutions worldwide, is incorporated into the teaching approaches for leadership education at NIC. Small classes enable personalised supervision by multinational faculty members with master's or doctoral degrees and faculty from affiliated top business schools. In addition, the Summer School for prospective students (July) and a preparatory course (the Bridging Programme) for September admission are also offered.

Safe Boarding Environment

The school provides a safe and secure co-educational boarding environment with reference to international boarding standards. 'House Supervisors', who are well versed in psychological and health management, provide daily support and regular individual counselling to ensure optimal support and guidance for each student. Through living together with peers from different cultures and experiences, students develop the qualities required of the next generation of leaders.
