NUCB International College Opens Applications For 2024 Spring School

#press_release

NUCB International College will be holding its second annual Spring School from March 23rd to March 26th, 2024. This four-day, three-night programme takes advantage of the spring break period in Japan and is an opportunity for junior high school students from all over the country to experience student life on our beautiful Nisshin Campus. Participants will have the chance to join classes utilising the Harvard-style Case Method, as well as various activities based on student-centred, active learning. Additionally, they will also have the chance to interact with current NIC students at the International House; where both Spring School and NIC students will reside, allowing them to forge and nurture bonds and also learn from one another.

Our school, which aims to nurture world-class leaders, provides an environment where students of diverse backgrounds and experiences from both Japan and abroad can come together to learn. Approved by the Aichi Prefecture and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, all classes at NIC are conducted in English except for Japanese language classes. As of December 12, 2022, NIC has been certified as an IB World School, becoming the first international boarding school in the Tokai region, and one of only a handful in Japan.

The most distinctive feature of the education at NUCB International College is its teaching style; which combines the exploratory learning of the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum with the Harvard-style Case Method. At the Spring School, participants will have the opportunity to undergo this unique blend of educational approaches through our carefully designed programme focusing on all the different subject groups offered in the IB Diploma Programme. The subject groups offered in the IB Programme are Group 1 (Studies in language and literature), Group 2 (Language acquisition), Group 3 (Individuals and societies), Group 4 (Sciences), Group 5 (Mathematics) and Group 6 (Arts). This allows participants to have a well-rounded experience and explore different areas of interest.

Through the case method, participants will deepen their analytical understanding and thinking through group and class discussions and then will be challenged to actively participate in discussions, come up with new ideas, and put these ideas into action through different projects. All lessons, group work and extra-curricular activities are conducted in English. This helps participants to improve their language skills, as well as their curiosity and leadership skills.

In addition to school life, participants will also have the chance to experience dormitory life. This is a great way for students to learn independence, create new friendships, and step out of their comfort zones. NIC students, staff and teachers will organise fun afternoons with sports activities, tabletop games, puzzle games, and more. The combination of academics and dormitory life aims to improve their self-management, logical thinking, and communication skills. The programme will end with presentations to the parents, going through the experiences and lessons that students have learned on their journey.

This unique opportunity is only available to 25 students so spots are limited. Applications are already open so sign up today before you miss your chance!

NIC Advantages

NUCB International College is designed to provide a world-class education with excellent facilities and a rich natural environment, on its 200-acre campus, in Nisshin city, Japan.

Excellence in Education

The case method, first developed at Harvard Business School in 1922 and now commonly used in elite academic institutions worldwide, is incorporated into the teaching approaches for leadership education at NIC. Small classes enable personalised supervision by multinational faculty members with master's or doctoral degrees and faculty from affiliated top business schools. In addition, the Summer School for prospective students (July) and a preparatory course (the Bridging Programme) for September admission are also offered.

Safe Boarding Environment

The school provides a safe and secure co-educational boarding environment with reference to international boarding standards. 'House Supervisors', who are well versed in psychological and health management, provide daily support and regular individual counselling to ensure optimal support and guidance for each student. Through living together with peers from different cultures and experiences, students develop the qualities required of the next generation of leaders.
