An 8-day unique summer learning experience

The programme, which will be taught from Sunday, 21st July to Sunday, 28th July, (8 days/7 nights), is designed to draw out the curiosity and leadership skills of junior high school students through a variety of workshops and activities, including case method classes that challenge problem-solving, team building workshops and cross-cultural experience activities. We look forward to welcoming those who are considering enrolment in our programme and those who wish to experience learning at a boarding school.

“English Juku” will be offered to the participants of the Summer School 2024.

“English Juku” is an intensive English training session designed for those who wish to enrol in a high school offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. It will help them gain the high-level English skills needed to be more actively involved in IB classes and discussions with other students.

In addition to the basics of English language studies, such as grammar and reading comprehension, the session also includes lessons on listening and speaking skills that are useful for interviews and daily conversation in English.

Current students of NIC who have scored highly on the NIC entrance examination interview and cognitive ability test (CAT4), both of which are conducted entirely in English, will be supporting the participants of “English Juku”.

1. Leadership

Discover your leadership potential. You will have the opportunity to learn and practice leadership skills via different group projects including special focus on societal topics where you will take the lead in a field study and then present your ideas.

2. Collaboration

Challenge yourself as you learn how to collaborate with others in small groups. You will participate in authentic, problem-solving, and creative projects using such approaches as the Case Method direct from Harvard Business School.

3. Life Skills

Develop real skills for real situations. You will develop your self-management, reflection, design thinking and communication skills via a variety of interesting activities under the guidance of NIC teachers and NUCB student mentors.

Location

Nagoya, Japan’s third-biggest metropolitan area, offers a combination of vibrant urban life and tradition. NIC is housed within Nagoya University of Commerce and Business (NUCB), where students can reside in a safe, spacious, comfortable environment with access to learning and sporting facilities. Application period

Applications will open on Friday, 19 January 2024. Results will be announced by email within a few days of submitting your application. If the self-introduction video does not sufficiently confirm your English language skills, an online interview will be conducted.

Eligibility

Students enrolled in Grade 7-9 at the time of the programme, with at least conversational English proficiency. Participants will be assigned to classes based on their English ability.

Selection

At the time of application, you will need to create a self-introduction video in English and create a share link. The content should include your self-introduction, your motivation for participating in the summer program, and the appeal of our school. Fee

¥240,000 (Japanese Yen)

This is the total cost covering tuition, accommodation, food, excursions, etc. The entrance examination fee for NUCB International College (¥20,000) will be waived for Summer Programme participants. Fees are non-refundable except for cancellation due to illness, accident or other unforeseen circumstances. Notice must be given no less than 14 days before the start of the programme for a refund.
