Koyomi

Hello! My name is Koyomi and I am currently in Grade 10 at NIC. I participated in the 2022 Summer School and also worked as a volunteer in the 2023 Summer School!

Why did you choose to join the NIC Summer School?

I resonated with the theme of leadership. Also, at the time NIC wasn’t open yet and I knew it was opening in September so I wanted to see it in person first.

What is your best memory of NIC Summer School?

The case experience was most impressive. It was not similar to the usual middle school style at all. I loved the fact that there wasn’t just one correct answer.

What do you think about the Case Method learning approach?

It was an opportunity to learn things I was unfamiliar with because of the lack of definitive answers and the use of real-life examples which allows us to have debates.

Which aspect or point of NUCB International College is the most interesting for you?

The full boarding aspect; from the time I was in middle school, I wanted to live independently. As I couldn’t experience it in middle school, from high school I wanted to be in a diverse environment and NIC's international community was a perfect match.

What advice would you give to a student thinking about joining NIC Summer School?

There was a year when I participated in the program and another year when I was a student volunteer. There is no need to be afraid of making grammatical mistakes, I want you to enjoy the 8 days and communicate with your roommates and others if you have any concerns. Many participants expressed their anxiety the year I volunteered, but it was an environment where you had people who were there to listen to you and offer you advice so please do not worry.

How did joining the NIC Summer School help you when you applied to NIC?

I was able to get to know the teachers so I was able to talk to them in the actual interview without being nervous.
