Mission & Vision

Mission Statement

We aim to develop caring, innovative and ethical leaders with a frontier spirit who can create a peaceful and sustainable society. Our graduates will have the ability to bridge the gap between international cultures.

Vision

We aim to be the premier international boarding school in the Asia region, cultivating a ‘frontier spirit’ and academic excellence in creating pathways to ethical leadership.  



History of NUCB


  • 1935

    Kurimoto Educational Institute (Parent organisation of NUCB) founded

    The founder of our university, Dr. Yuichi Kurimoto, carried his aspiration for education in his heart, and he embarked on a journey across the Pacific Ocean to absorb the cultures of Europe and America. He was the first international student to graduate from the Faculty of Arts at the University of Alberta, Canada in 1930. Upon his return to Japan, at the young age of 30, he established the predecessor of our university, Nagoya Railway School.

  • 1953

    Nagoya University of Commerce and Business established

    The School of Business (Nagoya downtown, Hirokoji Campus) was established. The university is abbreviated as "Meisho Dai," "Sho Dai," and the English abbreviation is "NUCB".

  • 1968

    Relocation to Nisshin campus

    Pioneering the university's relocation to the suburbs, the vast campus is established in Nisshin City.

  • 1976

    Computer Center opened

  • 1978

    Central Information Centre opened

    The university library is equipped with various facilities to support self-study and independent learning, in addition to over 800,000 Western books.

  • 1981

    Language Centre opened

    The distinctive feature is the extensive use of mirrored glass in its exterior, which is based on a hexagonal design. It was constructed as a hub for international education within the Nisshin Campus and serves as the core for foreign language education.

  • 1984

    Faculty of Management and Information Systems opened

    Established to provide data science education in areas such as marketing and finance to foster digital talents.

  • 1986

    Campus LAN completed

  • 1988

    Intelligent School Building (IS Building) opened

    Another stage of advanced information education promoted by NUCB is the Intelligent School Building (Advanced Information Technology Classroom Building), commonly known as the IS Building.

  • 1990

    Business School opened

    Established to provide international-standard management education through the Harvard-style case method.

  • 1996

    Frontier Spirit Programme inaugurated

    A unique study abroad programme that combines language training at the host university with work experience at local companies or independent travel.

  • 1998

    Faculty of Global Studies established

  • 2000

    Millennium Gate completed

  • 2001

    Nagoya Fushimi campus opened

    The graduate school's campus was established in front of Fushimi Station on the Higashiyama Subway Line.

  • 2003

    50th Anniversary Pole completed

  • 2005

    Gap Year Programme started

    The study abroad programme involves independently planning and conducting research or volunteer activities in Europe over a period of approximately 70 days. It is based on established systems in Europe and allows individuals to reevaluate themselves through overseas living, significantly expanding their global perspective and personal growth.

  • 2006

    AACSB Accreditation Obtained

    NUCB obtained accreditation from AACSB, the evaluating body for management education, which has the world's top history and authority, becoming the second institution in Japan to do so.

  • 2008

    Faculty of Economics established

  • 2009

    AMBA Accreditation Obtained

    NUCB's graduate school (Business School) obtained accreditation from AMBA, an internationally renowned MBA accreditation institution based in the UK. NUCB was the first institution in Japan to achieve this accreditation.

  • 2011

    Meito Residence completed

    Situated in the quiet residential neighborhood of Nagoya's Meito Ward, the international dormitory consists of around 200 individual rooms, fully furnished.

  • 2015

    Completion of Nagoya Marunouchi Campus

    Completed in the Nagoya Marunouchi area, the campus is dedicated to the Graduate School of Management (Business School) and offers management education for working professionals.

  • 2016

    NUCB Alliance Partner Schools (overseas affiliated schools) network reached over 100 schools

  • 2016

    Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) established

    Introduction of the Case Method, a prominent educational method in MBA programmes.

  • 2018

    Global BBA established

    A four-year business administration programme, taught exclusively in English.

  • 2022

    NUCB International College established

    A coeducational, fully residential boarding high school where students can obtain Japanese and International Baccalaureate (IB) diplomas upon graduation.
