Xavier
Can you introduce yourself?
My name is Xavier and I am a 9th-grade student. I found my interest in cardiovascular science and I want to be a doctor in the future.
Why did you choose to join the NIC Summer School?
I decided to join the NIC Summer School because I saw the programme had business-related topics that are not familiar to me. The case method was another part that caught my interest, which I enjoy so far.
Which activities have you enjoyed the most so far?
I have enjoyed the Creative Projects the most so far. It gives me an opportunity to interact and collaborate with different people to create a solution. I think this is a great way to improve my interpersonal skills.
I have made so many friends that I cannot even count. I have always considered myself a social person, and it pays off in situations like this. It was very easy for me to talk, laugh and study with everyone I came across, even with the mentors.
Which activity required the most effort to work together as a team?
The team-building activities required the most effort to work as a team. For example, during the Case Method Challenge, we had to make a structure out of straw in a limited amount of time. There were a lot of discussions and planning to do in such a short time. I think my friends would enjoy these team-building activities because everyone around me is very social. They also make great teammates and can do incredibly well with any type of group.
How has NIC Summer School changed your understanding of diversity, communication and working together?
As a student in an international school, I have a moderate understanding of these topics. Even though I am with completely new people, I try to be myself as much as possible and interact with everyone the way I do in my daily life.
Finally, what advice would you give to a student thinking about joining NIC Summer School next year?
I would tell them to be confident in themselves. Everyone here is very accepting of different people and their ways. There's always someone that you will get along with and once you find that person or people, the experience just gets better!
