Hana
Hello! My name is Hana, and I am from Thailand. I am currently in Grade 10 at NIC. I participated in the 2023 Summer Camp.
What made you decide to join the NIC Summer Camp?
Many of my friends were joining, so I decided to join too.
How did you feel on your first day, and how did that change by the end?
It was very exciting, and I wanted to meet new people. By the end of summer camp, I had made many friends whom I still keep in touch with today.
What is your best memory of NIC Summer Camp?
I think the entire summer camp was my favourite memory. I can't pick just one moment.
How did it feel to stay in a boarding environment?
It didn’t feel intimidating to me at all, since I often travel and attend summer schools abroad.
What do you think about the Case Method learning approach?
I was already familiar with the case method of learning from my time at an IB school in Thailand. Although NIC's more subjective syllabus makes the learning approach different from my previous school, the difference wasn’t too drastic, so the transition was smooth.
Which aspect or point of NUCB International College did you feel the most interesting for you?
I think it is interesting that NIC, as an international school, continues to honour Japanese customs. It reminds us that, although we come from diverse backgrounds, we're living in Japan, and respecting the local culture is meaningful.
What’s one thing you learned there that you’ll take with you into the school year?
One important thing I learned was to be open-minded toward other people’s cultures. Being around participants from different backgrounds helped me appreciate diverse perspectives.
How did joining the NIC Summer Camp help you when you applied to NIC?
I had already decided to move to NIC before joining the summer camp, but the summer camp gave me a better idea of the school's campus life.
What advice would you give to a student thinking about joining NIC Summer Camp?
Bring a watch and an alarm clock so you can keep track of time on your own without relying on others!
