On June 24, 2023, NUCB International College (NIC) invited Mr Kaisho Mizukoshi, an official ambassador from University College London (UCL), to deliver a lecture on pursuing higher education abroad and studying overseas. Following Mr Mizukoshi's engaging presentation about the realities of university life, first-year students posed numerous inquiries concerning exam preparation, university course content, and life in the United Kingdom. This interactive session provided a valuable opportunity for the students to contemplate their future career paths.
Established in September 2022 in Nisshin City, Aichi Prefecture, NIC strives to foster globally competent leaders and offers an environment where students from diverse backgrounds, both local and international, can learn collaboratively. Accredited by Aichi Prefecture and the IB organisation, the institution conducts all classes in English, except for the Japanese language course, which has received special exception status from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology.
At present, NIC welcomes students from approximately 10 different countries, many of whom wish to pursue higher education at overseas universities. UCL, the academic institution attended by guest speaker Mr Mizukoshi, boasts a rich historical connection with Japan and has served as an educational institution for several renowned figures, including the first Prime Minister Hirobumi Ito, Junichiro Koizumi, and the esteemed writer Soseki Natsume. Recognized as one of the world's leading universities, UCL attracts students from across the globe and holds the 9th position in the QS World University Rankings for 2024. As an official ambassador of this esteemed university, Mr Mizukoshi drew from his personal experiences to enlighten the audience about preparing for studying abroad and navigating examinations, providing them with invaluable insights only a current university student could offer.
During the question-and-answer session that followed the lecture, the high school students actively raised a variety of pertinent questions, ranging from practical concerns like the cost of living and dining in London to the difficulty level of university classes and exams, and even their experiences with racism.
In late July 2023, a ten-day programme titled 'UCL - Japan Youth Challenge 2023' will take place in the United Kingdom. NIC selected three students to participate in this programme, which entails a series of activities such as interactions between Japanese and British high school students at esteemed universities like UCL and Cambridge University, lectures by university professors, and discussions and presentations led by the program participants.
NUCB International College is designed to provide a world-class education with excellent facilities and a rich natural environment, on its 200-acre campus, in Nisshin city, Japan.
The case method, first developed at Harvard Business School in 1922 and now commonly used in elite academic institutions worldwide, is incorporated into the teaching approaches for leadership education at NIC. Small classes enable personalised supervision by multinational faculty members with master's or doctoral degrees and faculty from affiliated top business schools. In addition, the Summer School for prospective students (July) and a preparatory course (the Bridging Programme) for September admission are also offered.
The school provides a safe and secure co-educational boarding environment with reference to international boarding standards. 'House Supervisors', who are well versed in psychological and health management, provide daily support and regular individual counselling to ensure optimal support and guidance for each student. Through living together with peers from different cultures and experiences, students develop the qualities required of the next generation of leaders.
