G11 Weka Wins A Silver Medal At The Asian Sailing Championships and Thailand's "Sailor of the Year Award"

Weka, a G11 student at NIC, participated in the 2024 ILCA Asian Open Championship held in Hainan Island, China, from mid to late December. A total of 259 athletes from all over Asia competed for medals. Weka won the silver medal in the men's ILCA6 (under 19 years old). He was also awarded “Sailor of the Year 2024” in the men's category in his home country of Thailand.

Weka also won a bronze medal at the Youth Sailing Championship 2024, held this summer in Riva del Garda, Italy. This world championship is the highest level of competition in the world, with only one representative from each country allowed to compete, and is known as an important championship leading up to the Olympics, especially in the 19+ age group. Weka
represented his native Thailand in the Men's ILCA 6 and won the bronze medal.

Weka has shown his ability in numerous championships, including winning the 2022 Optimist World Championships (under 16s), the 2023 ILCA4 Youth World Championships (under 18s), and the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games ILCA4 gold medal, and has now been promoted to ILCA6 (U19 class for men and Olympic class).

Weka said, “I have been able to devote myself to sailing in Japan while also being aware of balancing my studies. I am also very proud to have been selected as an active sailor this year. I will continue to practice hard as I have the World Championships coming up in June and July.”
