Richard Ng
Biography
Richard Ng was born in Hong Kong, earned his B.A. from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and completed his Ph.D. in Language and Culture Studies at Osaka University, specialising in comparative literature and cultural history. His work bridges Chinese-Japanese comparative literature, Sinophone studies, and East Asian cultural history. He examines how texts, films, and ideas circulate across languages and borders, with particular attention to the Chinese diaspora. Recent projects explore exiled Chinese writers in postwar Japan and transnational cultural memory in East Asia. He also studies orality and literacy in the Sinosphere and the cultural work of the Sinoscript. In teaching, he integrates close reading, film analysis, and historical context to strengthen students’ critical thinking.
