After weeks of preparation, construction for our boarding house has formally commenced today at the Nisshin campus of Nagoya University of Commerce and Business (NUCB). A ceremony was held at the construction site earlier today to mark this important occasion.
Dr Hiroyuki Kurimoto, the Chancellor of NUCB, gave a welcoming speech in which he explained the vision of the new international boarding school. The Mayor of Nisshin city, and an Executive Director from the Bureau of Economic and Industry, Aichi Prefectural Government, came to express their support and extend their best wishes. They noted the significance of having a globally-minded educational institution, where young people from around the world live and study together, in the local area. The ceremony was also attended by staff of the architectural and construction firms in charge of the project, as well as the mass media.
Professor Nobuyuki Nomura, who is a qualified architect, gave insights into the architectural design of the boarding house. Adopting a modern round-shaped design, the 3-storey building will contain a number of features reflecting the innovative, aspiring character of the school. Bedrooms will be found at the outer circle overlooking the spacious woodland campus, while the inner circle will provide spacious communal spaces and facilities.
