On June 30, 2023, NUCB International College (NIC) celebrated its inaugural completion ceremony, marking the end of the academic year. The event brought together students from approximately 10 countries, along with teachers, staff, and parents, to witness the growth of the students and the evolution of the school.
The completion ceremony was attended by a large number of parents, teachers, and staff. During the ceremony, the Leadership Award was presented to students who had served as exemplary role models in both their academic achievements and their conduct in school and dormitory life. The recipient of this year's award expressed deep gratitude for the honour. The entire audience was filled with joyous congratulations. Additionally, the students created a video presentation that reflected on their experiences at the school and in the dormitories, starting from their enrollment up to the present day.
Following the completion ceremony, a 30-minute music performance took place, showcasing the students' hard work and dedication during their rehearsals leading up to the event. The highlight of the performance was the rendition of 'Amazing Grace' by the music students. With a sense of unity, the students skillfully played their unique instruments, including vocals, piano, guitar, bass, oboe, clarinet, and trumpet. This performance was the culmination of a year of study. Other students who had chosen music as an extracurricular activity, known as the Engage program, also delivered a diverse range of performances. These included an oboe and flute duet, a classical piano duet, contemporary music by a rock band, a vocal and Shamisen performance of "Shimanchu Nu Takara," a traditional Okinawan instrument, and a Western chorus accompanied by a guitar. These lively performances transcended the boundaries of time, genre, borders, and language. The audience responded with applause, appreciating the unique spirit of NIC showcased in these presentations.
Looking ahead, NIC will enter its second year of operation in September 2023 and will welcome its second cohort of students from approximately 20 countries. With its ever-growing diversity, NIC will utilize its boarding system to create an inclusive environment where students can embrace and learn from each other's cultures and backgrounds. The goal is to foster academic and personal growth, shaping students not only as scholars but also as global leaders of the future.
NUCB International College takes pride in its commitment to nurturing future leaders on a global scale and providing an inclusive educational environment for students from diverse backgrounds. Recognized as an IB World School by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) on December 12, 2022, NIC has become the first international boarding school in Central Japan.
NUCB International College is designed to provide a world-class education with excellent facilities and a rich natural environment, on its 200-acre campus, in Nisshin city, Japan.
The case method, first developed at Harvard Business School in 1922 and now commonly used in elite academic institutions worldwide, is incorporated into the teaching approaches for leadership education at NIC. Small classes enable personalised supervision by multinational faculty members with master's or doctoral degrees and faculty from affiliated top business schools. In addition, the Summer School for prospective students (July) and a preparatory course (the Bridging Programme) for September admission are also offered.
The school provides a safe and secure co-educational boarding environment with reference to international boarding standards. 'House Supervisors', who are well versed in psychological and health management, provide daily support and regular individual counselling to ensure optimal support and guidance for each student. Through living together with peers from different cultures and experiences, students develop the qualities required of the next generation of leaders.
