NUCB International College holds 2nd Entrance Ceremony - 16 countries represented

#press_release

On Saturday, 2 September, NUCB International College (NIC) held its second annual Entrance Ceremony where it welcomed new students from sixteen different countries. The ceremony was attended by over 100 people, including parents and dedicated school staff, all united in celebrating this significant milestone in the lives of the students.

NIC, which opened in Nisshin City, Aichi Prefecture, in September 2022, aims to cultivate leaders with global competence and provides an environment where students with diverse experiences from around the world can learn together. NIC is the only boarding school in central Japan accredited by the Ministry and Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology (MEXT) to offer two qualifications: the Japanese high school diploma (as an "Article 1" school) and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). All subjects apart from language classes are taught in English, and all our students have the opportunity to be awarded the Bilingual IBDP Diploma.

The newly enrolled second batch of students were welcomed by the staff, parents, and their senior classmates as they nervously embarked on their first day at the school. Highlights of the ceremony include a beautiful and moving performance of "Amazing Grace" by our Grade 11 students and an inspiring speech delivered by our student representative, Weka, who encourages his fellow classmates to strive for excellence and enjoy their new beginnings.

Many NIC students, new to living away from home and their home country, often experience dormitory-related anxiety. To ease their transition, the school employs distinctive support programmes like the Buddy system and House system, commonly found in full boarding schools.

The buddy system pairs new students with seniors for their initial dormitory weeks. Buddies are introduced upon arrival, sharing meals and daily life for a set time. Especially for those unfamiliar with Japan or living independently, buddies provide valuable guidance and support.

Additionally, all students are assigned to one of four "Houses" upon enrolment. School events are organized based on these Houses and House points are awarded based on rankings in these sports and academic performances. These points accumulate throughout the year, and the winning House is determined at year-end. This House system, akin to Harry Potter, fosters student unity, regardless of grade level and enhances the school experience at NIC.

The academic year's House events kicked off with the "School Anthem Choral Competition" the day after move-in. Through this choral performance of the school anthem, students connected with the school's values and their ideal student role. They also crafted formations and choreography, showcasing their individuality.

At NIC, the educational philosophy emphasizes the "Frontier Spirit" (the spirit of exploring uncharted territories) and "Ethical Leadership," and the school is dedicated to nurturing global leaders for tomorrow. The students from 16 different countries who have come together will undoubtedly undergo significant personal growth, not only academically but also as individuals, through diverse experiences in their school and dormitory lives.

NIC Advantages

NUCB International College is designed to provide a world-class education with excellent facilities and a rich natural environment, on its 200-acre campus, in Nisshin city, Japan.

Excellence in Education

The case method, first developed at Harvard Business School in 1922 and now commonly used in elite academic institutions worldwide, is incorporated into the teaching approaches for leadership education at NIC. Small classes enable personalised supervision by multinational faculty members with master's or doctoral degrees and faculty from affiliated top business schools. In addition, the Summer School for prospective students (July) and a preparatory course (the Bridging Programme) for September admission are also offered.

Safe Boarding Environment

The school provides a safe and secure co-educational boarding environment with reference to international boarding standards. 'House Supervisors', who are well versed in psychological and health management, provide daily support and regular individual counselling to ensure optimal support and guidance for each student. Through living together with peers from different cultures and experiences, students develop the qualities required of the next generation of leaders.
