【Report】12/09 NIC Family One-Day Experience

On Saturday, December 9th, NIC held its NIC Family One-Day Experience. Guests from all over Japan, as well as foreign guests from China and Russia, spent an exciting day together experiencing the wide range of activities available at our school.

The day started with welcome drinks, a commemorative speech from our Principal, and an info-session introducing NIC and the IB Diploma Programme in particular. Throughout the day, 2 members of the Admissions Council, Kei and Chihaya, accompanied our guests, led the tours, organised games, and supported staff during mock lessons and engage activities.

Our guests enjoyed a tour of both the school building and the International House dormitory, led by Chihaya and Kei who were able to give some unique insights. It was a great opportunity for participants to experience the architecture of NIC, the beautiful nature surrounding our campus, and to observe lessons and see how students spend their daily lives. This was also a special day because Grade 11 students were in the middle of their Group 4 (Science) projects, so participants could see their fun experiments.

After an enjoyable lunch together with students, guests were able to experience the Engage Programme and try their hand at golf. It was the first time that many of them played golf but with the guidance of teachers and NIC students, they were able to improve and have fun.

Our popular Case Method mock lesson returned, this time led by our Mathematics teacher Mr Nakamura. With the help of current NIC students, participants were guided through a typical Case Method lesson and had the opportunity to gain the confidence to participate in discussions. This is a great way to experience the unique lessons offered at our school, especially for students who have only attended local Japanese schools.

We ended the day with some fun holiday-themed games organised entirely by NIC students. Parents also had the opportunity to hear first-hand stories of what current students enjoy about NIC and how studying here can help them accomplish their future goals. With a group photo at the end, it was clear that new friendships were made!

Our upcoming events include the Open Campus on January 27th where you can have a tour of our facilities, experience a mock lesson, and meet NIC students. Also, do not forget that applications for the 2024 Spring School are open! This is a 4-day 3-night event held during Spring Break in Japan where junior high school students can acquaint themselves with life at NUCB International College.
