Haru

  • Name: Haru
  • Country: Japan

Who are you and what is your background?

I'm Haru. I went to a public elementary and junior high school in Japan before joining NIC.

What do you want to do after graduating from NIC?

I want to become a psychiatrist and run my own hospital. I would like to enter a medical school in the States or the UK and study psychology.

What led you to choose Japan and NIC for your education?

I joined NIC because I can get an IB diploma here. I was also interested in the idea of making close friendships at this school because is it a boarding school.

Did you have any apprehension regarding your new life as a boarder before coming to NIC?

I was not sure whether I can use my time effectively and whether I could make close friends at NIC in the beginning. I was also wondering if I could get used to living with my classmates all day in the boarding house and being away from my family. But I'm not alone, and my friends are here to help each other.

What do you usually do in your free time?

I usually spend my time doing my homework and playing tennis or football with friends.

What is your favourite school subject and why?

I like Civic studies because I can ponder about things and events that are part of my everyday life.

What is your best memory so far and why?

I felt really happy when I received a high score in my Business test. This result motivated me to keep working harder in my studies.

What is the best advice you can give to anyone considering applying to NIC?

All applicants should prepare to have some difficulty getting used to studying and living at NIC as it is probably different to what you have experienced elsewhere. But you can make a lot of close friends here. You can also talk with and support each other to reduce your stress and build camaraderie.
