Hiroyuki

  • Name: Hiroyuki
  • Country: Japan/Indonesia

Who are you and what is your background?

I am Hiroyuki and I'm a high school student in the NUCB International College inaugural class. I spent more than half of my life in Indonesia, as I was born in Indonesia. I think one of my strengths is that I have experience living in Indonesia as well as in Japan. I'm also the one who gave the speech at the Opening ceremony of the school. So, that boy that you can see in the newspaper is me!

What do you want to do after graduating from NIC?

I want to work and study abroad. And my dream is to change the world into a better place in some way, somehow. The classes we have here are slowly shaping my dreams.

What led you to choose Japan and NIC for your education?

I chose NIC because I wanted to maximize my potential for learning and I believe the NIC is able to provide high-quality education. Also, it is a boarding school and I wanted to put myself in an international environment while still living in Japan.

Did you have any apprehension regarding your new life as a boarder before coming to NIC?

Since NIC is a brand new school, there was a pressure of being a student who will make history and establish a legacy not only for NIC but also for myself. Also, I was anxious and nervous about my ability to make friends, but in fact, everyone is very nice and kind.

Was it challenging to get used to living at NIC? How did you overcome these challenges?

It was hard for me to blend in because there are different vibes and atmospheres compared to the bridging program, which I also participated in, but the experience that I earned in BP really helped me and has made it easier to transition to boarding life. I always challenge myself to get out of my comfort zone in order to get used to new things, and it helps also because I gain confidence from those experiences.

What do you usually do in your free time?

I usually do my homework or play sports. I like badminton, and I often sprint on the hill in front of the dorm or on the stunning athletic track that we share with our affiliated university, NUCB. Exercising is really important for me because once I got accepted into this school, the time I had for exercise decreased, so it is important for me to follow a schedule in order to enjoy what I love doing.

What is your favourite school subject and why?

I like biology because I can get to know about phenomena that are occurring in our bodies and other organisms.

What is your best memory so far and why?

I was very happy when our team won during a game of golf in PE class. At that time, we all worked together as a team to decide, for example, who would hit the ball and in which order. We laughed a lot together, and although it has only been two months since I arrived at NIC, I already made such a good memory.

What is the best advice you can give to anyone considering applying to NIC?

At NIC, I feel that you will find better people and better school life than you can imagine. The food is of course delicious, and if you have any questions, you can ask your mentor, friends, or teachers, and it is a very global school. I think the biggest attraction of this school is the diversity. So, if you want to make an impact on the world in the future, why don't you come and study with us at NIC?
