Please introduce yourself.

My name is Chihaya, I’m 15 years old and in grade 10. I am half Japanese and half Indonesian. My hobbies are dancing, eating, and napping.

What made you choose to study at NIC?

The first thing that interested me here was the beautiful campus. I thought that studying in such a beautiful environment would increase my motivation and make me feel better every day. I participated in the open campus and experienced the case method for the first time. It was interesting to have student-centered discussion, so I decided to apply. I also want to go to university overseas so the IB curriculum really interested me.

What is your favourite thing about being part of the NIC community?

I love the people here. All my friends and seniors are kind and cooperative, and the teachers are also very friendly and easy to interact with, making it easy to spend time with them. We all respect each other and it creates a comfortable environment for everyone, even if we have different languages and cultures.

What made you decide to join the student council? What skills do you think you can acquire and how can it help you achieve your goals in the future?

I love meeting new people and building relationships. I decided to join the student council, especially admissions, because I thought it would give me a lot of opportunities to be involved in open campus activities, and I would be able to communicate with people. In the future, my dream is to go overseas and do a job where I interact with a lot of people, so I thought that the experience I had through this committee would be useful for that purpose.

What do you want to be in the future? How can NIC and your role in the student council help you achieve this goal?

I haven't decided on a definitive future job that I want to achieve yet. As I mentioned, I like working with people and building relationships, so I think it would be great to get a job that allows me to do that. My one dream is to go abroad. The educational curriculum provided by NIC will give us an advantage in studying abroad. Therefore, I believe that studying at NIC will help me realize my future dreams.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering joining NIC?

NIC is definitely different from public schools in Japan. For example, you are always required to express your opinion. That's part of what I'm struggling with as well. However, there are many things we can learn from being different. Learning does not only occur in class but is hidden in many areas of everyday life. There are many times when I talk to friends and try new things. Enjoy learning. Studying may be difficult, but it's definitely not boring. At NIC, there are people of various races and people with various ways of thinking. There are many things we can learn from this environment. If you enjoy learning, you will definitely enjoy your life here.
